BHM Kids Run 2020

We partnered with local running club Mover’s & Pacers to help sponsor a 2 mile children’s running tour of the Historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood in Atlanta, GA. There were 3 main goals for this activity.

  • Sports – encouraging activity through running, helping to improve focus, reduce stress & burn calories.
  • Education – the places visited on the tour are all symbolic of people & organizations that helped birth the civil right movement.
  • Community – honoring the past, enduring the present and building for the future.

We also provided Wish “BHM” t-shirts to all of the children and parents that took part in the running event.

Puma x RHUDE: Season 2

Arriving March 7th, season 2 of the Rhude & Puma collaboration is sure to catch eyes. Rising streetwear brand RHUDE is the epitome of youthful sophistication and attitude. Their simple yet provocative designs have made them one of the most coveted men’s labels in LA – worn by some of the biggest names in music, sport, and fashion. The second season of PUMA x RHUDE is inspired by motorsport gear, putting a modern twist on motorsport badges, branding, and stripes. This top speed collection appears in a muted color palette with loud pops of neon.

“For my second installment with PUMA, I thought about merging two worlds and re-ushering Formula 1 and racing culture into a community that isn’t as acquainted with the sport. The Motorsport theme lies within the cuts and seamlines emulating those you see in the uniform, but modernizing it with color palettes and shape. Formula 1 is a sport that I feel a close connection to, and I wanted to share that through the partnership with PUMA to bring visibility to a sport to the youth and younger generation that may not know much about its existence.” – Rhuigi V

Air Jordan 2 “Rivals”

The AJ 2 “Rivals” is inspired by the NBA franchises that challenged “His Airness” the most. This is a ladies-exclusive drop that follows the “What The” pattern, with both left and right shoes and their respective panels sporting an assortment of colors and materials. Each pair honors four of the most formidable NBA franchises from the mid-to-late 80s and early 90s. These teams significantly challenged Mike and his Bulls, undoubtedly fueling his winning mentality for future success.

The left shoe, dedicated to the Western Conference, features the team colors of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Portland Trailblazers. Those being the first two teams that challenged MJ and his Bulls in the NBA Finals. The right shoe, for the East, honors both the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks, two who provided some of the most epic battles in Mike’s career. Lux materials on the silhouette include quilted leather, similar to the Don C,  jersey mesh, basketball-textured leather, satin, and patent leather.

This shoe is now available in-store & online here!

Reese Cooper

Reese Cooper, a multidisciplinary artist, is a storyteller. He documents his exploration and experiences in his label. From fashion to photography, film to furniture, each project or collection tells a story – some fact, some fiction – woven together through powerful imagery and messaging all underpinned by precision detail.

He’s a 21 year old designer born in Atlanta and based out of LA by way of London. He launched the label in 2016 at the age of 18 and now at the age of 21, he is the youngest ever finalist for the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund. This award is given in support of a promising American designer and former winners include Thom Browne, Kirby Jean-Raymond (Pyer Moss) and the Elder Statesmen.

If any description is to be given to his clothing, Cooper prefers “modern heritage.” Mixing Americana and workwear effortlessly, it stands part from other brands with how authentically it tells a story. The men’s SS2020 collection is titled “How A Letter Travels” and draws direct inspiration from the US Postal Service as a metaphor for how far people are willing to go to tell their story & deliver their message. The collection is made for travelers, featuring lightweight nylon cargo pants & shorts, and uppers decorated in images of postal workers, stamps and mailboxes. Shop the collection here!

New Brand: Aries

Sofia Pantera founded Aries in London in 2010 with the help of graphic design legend Fergus Purcell. This was after almost a decade of designing for cult streetwear label Silas. This brand exudes non-conformity and confidently downplays being easily classified. Many of their pieces are created gender neutral to emphasize inclusivity.

“We wanted Aries to be a return to that 80s sensibility where street wear was fashion and vice versa. I make most of our patterns myself and
we hand dye and hand print in the studio. I like going against conventional pattern-cutting rules. I love that we can create pieces with firsthand experimentation which would be almost impossible to make within the constraints of a high street brand. We can also be a lot less
wasteful – using off cuts of leather to make jeans labels, reusing leftover fabric and denim to patch jeans”

https://www.ariesarise.com/about-aries-brand-book/

Pantera mentions that Aries’ creation is a product of her “struggling with reconciling her love for fashion, beautifully made and cut clothes, and sartorial experimentation with the love for streetwear, anti-fashion youth movements and trash culture in general,” so she decided that Aries should encompass all of those aspects. A Day In The “A” With The Atlanta Hawks

This past week the Atlanta Hawks had a “Day In The A” led by Coach Pierce. The team visited various Atlanta landmarks to help them really connect with the city that they proudly represent on a nightly basis. For their second stop of the day, they came by Wish ATL after leaving the Martin Luther King Center. As they were in the lot marveling over the Outkast Mural, Atlanta Rapper & Activist Killer Mike came by to impart some gems of financial literacy and historic Atlanta knowledge to the young Hawks team. We were able to spend some time with the team and talk about their favorite sneakers to play in, amongst a myriad of other topics. Check out the images below!

Introducing New Brand: LYpH

“UK brand LYpH is an Avant Garde clothing company creating mens and womens clothing for the culture and context of now.”

The LYpH label prides itself on continuing the conversation of sustainable fashion amongst its team and close collaborators. The brand is being continuously inspired by various cultures, countries and the citizens across the globe.

“An idea within the LYPH walls is to create a product and design function that is constructed out of prefabricated pockets with standardized dimensions, allowing for easy assembly and flexible arrangement. A product that can be recycled through seasons and genders. The LYPH pockets will switch between garments and accessories. Upcycling LYPH  pockets and attaching them to the latest LYPH product creates a new look each time and is less harmful to the environment.”

Ultimately, they aim to lead by example, ultimately expanding the conversation on sustainable clothing practices.

Conversation: Streetwear

In honor of Virgil Abloh’s “Figures Of Speech” exhibit currently in show, the High Museum of Art hosted a conversation about the state of Atlanta’s streetwear scene. Moderated by the “Lifestyle Specialist” Kenny Burns, the esteemed panelists included Wish’s Creative Director Renaldo Nehemiah, Curator & Set-Designer Marina Skye & Boutique Owner Kwassi Byll-Cataria of Moda 404. The topics of the night included Virgils impact on the fashion culture of Atlanta, and how Atlanta’s culture may have influenced Virgil as well. The question of the night came when Kenny chose to dive in to Virgil’s recent comments surrounding the eventual “death of streetwear.” It’s still “up in the air” what he truly meant by that statement, but like most things in art, it is completely up to your interpretation.

Wish ATL x Virgil VIP Night

Private Viewing of the “Figures Of Speech” Exhibit at the High Museum of Art

This past weekend we partnered with the High Museum of Art for a VIP preview of Virgil Abloh’s “Figures Of Speech” Exhibit. We brought out some of Atlanta’s most influential creatives and tastemakers for a private night at the High Museum, to view Virgil’s works before the exhibit opens to the public.

Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech” offers an unprecedented survey of Abloh’s creative work over nearly two decades and pulls back the curtain on his process. The exhibition presents prototypes alongside finished artworks, product designs, and fashion to reveal his myriad inspirations—from centuries-old paintings to commonplace construction signs. Running throughout the exhibition is an emphasis on dialogue, which Abloh creates through his inventive use of language and quotation marks, turning the objects he designs and the people who wear his clothing into “figures of speech.”

The works on view will offer an in-depth look at the defining highlights of Abloh’s career, including his recent designs for Louis Vuitton menswear collection, video documentation of his most iconic fashion shows, and his distinctive furniture and graphic design work.

Nike by Olivia Kim Collection

Available Friday November 8 at Wish ATL.

“Bringing together nostalgia and personal style, Nike is partnering with native New Yorker, Olivia Kim, on the Nike by Olivia Kim collection, a capsule of apparel, footwear and accessories that evoke the fun, playful side of New York City in the 90s. Inspired by Olivia’s childhood love of Nike and the vibrant, creative culture during her formative years growing up in Downtown Manhattan.”

“The capsule is a perfect confluence of classic Nike designs with Olivia’s style rooted in the rave and hip-hop styles defining that era. Think 90s subculture in New York where DIY fashion reigned the streets and youth culture everywhere was reclaiming their childhood through sartorial expression.”

Nike x Olivia Kim Air Max ’98

The Air Max ’98, featuring full-length Air technology, borrows from the iconoclastic Air Max 120 (originally released in 1998) paired with red, green and yellow accents to create a sense of vibrant street elegance.

Nike x Olivia Kim Footscape

A cult classic since its launch in 1996, Olivia references the OG Footscape design created by the Nike sport research lab, but flips it with a pink and zebra print. With these sneakers, she unites a universally downtown punk attitude found on St. Marks in the East Village all the way to the underground energy of Tokyo.

Nike x Olivia Kim Air Force 1 ’07

As bold as the city that inspired her collection, Olivia updates the Air Force 1 with a volt and game royal colorway. Her references remain firmly 90s, adapting the 1996 ivory snakeskin swoosh design paired with the elevated feel of game royal corduroy. Olivias AF1 nods to the New York streets from which they were born, while unequivocally making a statement wherever they go.

Nike x Olivia Kim MOWABB

First released in 1991 as a running-hiking hybrid, Olivia pays homage to the original intention of the Mowabb as a transitional sneaker. Her reimagining reflects Olivia’s own contrarian approach to fashion, presenting a style that can take you anywhere. The teal and red colorway contrasts the brown and black upper to emphasize the footwear’s dual personalities.

OutKast Is Everlasting

ABV Agency & the Outerspace Project partnered with renowned street artist Jeks to perfectly bring to life two classic images of the iconic Hip-Hop Duo “Outkast,” captured by photographer Jonathan Mannion.

Sunday October 20, we celebrated the unveiling of Atlanta’s newest landmark. We were joined by Artist Jeks, Photographer Jonathan Mannion, OutKast cohort Killer Mike, & a host of Outkast Fanatics. We were even blessed with a guest appearance from Andre 3000 via FaceTime.

The mural has garnered copious amounts of attention. Prior to it being completed, we noticed an influx of attention to the area once Andre’s face was completed and people had an idea what was transpiring on this wall. We expect to see more and more patrons coming by to take a picture in-front of this iconic mural.

This new landmark has also piqued the interest of various media & news outlets, including the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Fox 5 Atlanta, CNN, & 11 Alive.

Noon Goons has arrived at Wish

LA Based Noon Goons was created by Kurt Narmore in 2016. The brand is immensely inspired the Narmore’s roots in skate and surf. A “noon goon” is in fact a term for tourists that show up to the beach at noon, after all the real surfers have left for the day to work their day jobs.

Driven by funky prints, cozy outerwear, and graphic T-shirts, this brand is sure to catch eyes. Los Angeles street and surf culture is a well known fashion catalyst, and Narmore does a great job staying authentic to the culture, as he still operates in that community to keep the grassroots feel alive. The addition of industry veteran Sam Jarou (formerly of Comme des Garcons) as creative director has helped take the brand from the streets of LA to Dover Street Market.
