The sneaker world has been abuzz lately with news of Dikembe Mutombo’s return to adidas. This marks 20 years since the legendary NBA center’s African-inspired signature sneaker released, and has been begged for ever since. With African mud print motifs along with a complex upper of Black, Red, White, and Yellow hits of color, the release of the adidas Mutombo Running White/Black pays tribute to Mutombo himself as well as his Congolese Heritage. The classic shoe is rounded out by an oversized toungue featuring an African shield graphic that incorparates the letter “M” between two 5’s, nodding to his jersey number of 55. Look out for this release along with a Mutombo-themed 5-panel hat to hit shelves at Wish soon.

On June 15, 2013, the sneaker community of Atlanta took a pause as individuals from all walks of life, ethnicity, and income descended onto Dominique Wilkins Gym on Campbelton Road for Sneaker Con Atlanta 2013. Everyone from novice sneakerheads to downright footwear aficionados were in attendance hoping to either flip their pairs or discover a gem that they missed the first time around. Vendors sold everything from plastic wrapped exclusive sneaks to socks and jewelery as individuals walked around boldly lifting their pairs in the air, showing off their inventory in hopes of making that big profit. Most of the sneakers there having released at Wish at one time or another, it was great to see the community come together in such an event as this. This was our first time covering Sneaker Con, but it will surely not be our last. And after looking at some of the photos below, you’ll understand why.
After much hype and speculation, the pictures and details of the WEST NYC x New Balance MT580 “Alpine Guide Edition” have finally surfaced. The shoe is based on owner Lester Wasserman’s love of the outdoors and has a 90′s vibe to it. Taking cues from both 90’s alpine and ski apparel, as well as colors that are mainstays amongst outdoor enthusiasts. The New Balance MT580 served as the perfect canvas for this theme and will be available at our Moreland Ave. location this Saturday October 13th. Check out some images of these gems below:

Detroit’s Burn Rubber has put a new and creative spin on the classic Iverson sneaker for their latest Reebok collaboration. But the drastic change in colorway isn’t the only interesting thing about this shoe. Check out what Burn Rubber had to say about the story behind the “Apollos Young”:
The reason you may’ve never heard of Apollos Young is because he never played one second of A professional NBA game. His new found “fast life” turned this nice little Christian boy, into a certified Rockstar. A.Y. Went from a clean cut, sweater vest wearing schoolboy to a tattooed, baggy shorts wearing womanizer with a no holds barred attitude during the preseason. It started with the double cup lean sipping instead of the Gatorade that his teammates used for refreshments. A.Y. is on record for being the first player to ever smoke a black & mild during a game. Although, as a 14 year man child, he averaged 48.7 pts, 23.3 rebs, & 0.1 assts, the line was drawn in his last preseason game. You see, the inquiry was known to wear his cell phone on him during the game, but no one could ever think that he would take it to the level that he took it. Alot of his antics were swept under the rug because of his superior skill level. One thing that couldn’t go unnoticed, was his last time on an NBA court.

Viktor Tell, teams up with adidas
Originals to create his own fun
version of the Matchplay. From the
outside the silhouette looks low
key with its mostly white canvas
upper, but it’s the small glimpses
of detail on the heel tab, ankle
padding and inside the shoe that
tell both the Olympic and Happy
Socks stories.
The Stockholm native took
inspiration from a Swedish air
pistol champion, and this
is achieved along the 3-stripes
with bullet hole inspired dots.
On one of the sockliners is a
Trefoil target marked LUFTPISTOL
(air pistol) and the other features
a lid for bullets. The ankle
padding and underside of the
tongue feature more brightly
coloured dots that make it
characteristically Happy Socks.
Perhaps one of boldest
interpretations for Consortium
SS 12 and one with some
serious attitude is the Pro Shell
by Kara Messina, London designer
and creative director of men’s
streetwear label Y’OH. There’s
a strong synergy with Messina
and the Pro Shell model; each
has carved their own place
in streetwear history.
Most of the upper is made
of engineered fabric with
a traditional African print in
leopard colours, and for Messina
this conjures thoughts of
competitiveness and the multi
cultural presence in both
Olympics and everyday London
life. The print continues through
to the laces and velcro strap, while
the rubber toebox and supersoft
leather heel patch and side panel
tone it down slightly in black.

The Foamposite always a big hit here at Wish this time dropping in a vibrant metallic red just in time for the upcoming Valentines Day with a release date of February 4th.
